About IISERs

The Indian government has established Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) at Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tirupati to promote interdisciplinary science education and research. The IISERs have been successful in attracting talented young minds and aim to enable students to shape the nation by inventing and implementing sustainable solutions to societal problems through scientific research. The faculty of international repute together with bright students has generated a significant amount of intellectual property in the form of publications and patents.

About BS and BS-MS Dual Degree Program

The IISERs offer a five-year dual degree program for science students and a four-year BS program in Engineering Sciences and Economic Sciences (at IISER Bhopal only) with a focus on interdisciplinary activities. The curriculum is designed to provide breadth and depth in sciences, engineering sciences, and economics, with opportunities to pursue impactful research. The campuses are fully residential with well-equipped hostels, medical, sports, and other recreational facilities.

Important Dates

  1. Date of the IISER Aptitude test: 17 June 2023
  2. Date of opening of the application portal for the SCB stream: 15 April 2023
  3. Date of closing of the application portal for the SCB stream: 25 May 2023

Eligibility

Candidates who have passed 10+2 or equivalent level exam with a science stream in 2022 or 2023 from any board recognized by the Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE) and have scored within the category-wise cut-off are eligible to apply for admissions to IISER only through the following three channels: (1) Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel, (2) Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Advanced) of the Indian Institutes of Technology, and (3) State and Central Boards Channel (SCB).
